Exam Pattern

Conducting body: Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), through a Centralised Employment Notice (CEN). The Technician posts are advertised in two categories — Technician Grade I Signal and Technician Grade III — with different eligibility (Grade I typically needs an engineering diploma/degree in a relevant branch; Grade III typically needs an ITI / relevant qualification). Selection: a single-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination. CBT: 100 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with a scribe). Negative marking: one-third (1/3) mark for each wrong answer. The section split differs by grade: - Technician Grade I (Signal): General Awareness 10, General Intelligence & Reasoning 15, Basics of Computers & Applications 20, Mathematics 20, Basic Science & Engineering 35. - Technician Grade III: Mathematics 25, General Intelligence & Reasoning 25, General Science 40, General Awareness (current affairs) 10. Normalisation of marks is applied when the exam is held in multiple shifts. This matches the recently-used RRB Technician CEN pattern; the exact split, qualifying marks and stages can change between CENs, so always confirm against the specific Technician notification on rrbapply.gov.in.
