The three rules that decide this merit list
Bank of Baroda's LBO 2026 advertisement (No. BOB/HRM/REC/ADVT/2026/16, dated 18 August 2026) sets a 120-mark online test — but three of its rules matter more than the section names. First: the English Language section is qualifying only. Its 30 marks are not counted in the final merit list, so your rank rests on the other three sections — Banking Knowledge, General/Economic Awareness, and Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude.
Second: every section runs on its own separate 30-minute clock. You cannot bank time in an easy section and spend it in a hard one — 30 questions must fit in 30 minutes, four times over. Third: a wrong answer costs 0.25 of that question's marks, while a blank costs nothing — so on a question you cannot even eliminate options for, leaving it unanswered is the mathematically safer move.
One more thing before you open a single study note: this is not a fresher exam. The advertisement requires at least one year's experience as an officer in a scheduled commercial bank — details in the eligibility section below.

Online test structure — the official table
The advertisement calls this structure tentative: the Bank reserves the right to modify it, including adding a descriptive test or case study, with any change announced on its website. All sections except English Language are bilingual — every question appears in both English and Hindi.
| Section | Test | Questions | Marks | Time | Medium |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| 2 | Banking Knowledge | 30 | 30 | 30 minutes | Bilingual (English & Hindi) |

| Total | 120 | 120 | 120 minutes (2 hours) |
Scoring rules, exactly as the advertisement states them
- Negative marking in ALL sections: 0.25 of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for every wrong answer.
- No penalty for a question left blank.
- English Language is qualifying — marks secured in it are not considered for the final merit list.
- Minimum qualifying marks/percentage in each section are decided by the Bank at its sole discretion, and the Bank may waive the qualifying criteria.
- The merit list is drawn state-wise and category-wise — you compete only against candidates of your own state and category, not a national pool.
What happens after the online test
Selection does not end at the online test. Candidates who qualify face a psychometric test and/or group discussion and personal interview — the advertisement says these assess personality, communication, clarity, problem-solving and willingness to work anywhere in the assigned state's branches. The Bank explicitly reserves the right to add, drop or change any stage.
Biometrics run through the whole process: thumb impression or IRIS scan and photograph are captured before the online exam and verified again at GD/interview and at joining. The advertisement also advises candidates to hold a valid Aadhaar card, since online Aadhaar verification may run at different stages.
The exam date is not announced in the advertisement — it "shall be advised separately", and the detailed information handout comes with your call letter, downloaded from the Bank's website.
Eligibility — the three filters most candidates miss
The LBO syllabus is short precisely because the Bank filters candidates before the exam, not inside it. Read these three filters from the advertisement before preparing:
- Officer experience, not just bank experience: minimum 1 year of post-qualification experience as an OFFICER in a scheduled commercial bank (RBI's Second Schedule list). Experience in the clerical cadre is explicitly NOT counted, and stints under six months in an organisation are ignored (unless it is your current job).
- Local language is mandatory: you must read, write, speak and understand the local language of the state you apply for. For Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, English counts only if you studied and passed English as a subject from a school located in that state.
- One state, one application: merit is state-wise, and if you submit multiple applications only the latest valid one survives — the other fees are forfeited.
- Education: graduation in any discipline from a recognised university. The Bank lists IC 38 (Insurance Institute of India) and NISM Series V-A, XXI-A and XIII as preferred — not required — certifications.
- Bank of Baroda's own officer-cadre and contract employees cannot apply, nor can those who resigned from an officer post or exited a contract with the Bank in the last three years.
State-wise vacancies and the language they demand
Because eligibility hangs on the state's local language, the vacancy table below is really a language table — pick the state whose language you can prove, not just the one with the most seats.
Adding the advertisement's own state rows: 1,300 new vacancies and 1,182 unfilled seats carried from previous LBO recruitments — together 2,482, which is exactly the grand total the advertisement prints. Gujarat alone accounts for 1,185 of the 2,482. *English for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland is subject to the school condition described above.
| State | Local language required | New vacancies | Unfilled from earlier LBO rounds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Andhra Pradesh | Telugu | 80 | — |
| Arunachal Pradesh | English* | 14 | 6 |
| Assam | Assamese / Bodo | 34 | 6 |
| Goa | Konkani | 10 | 11 |
| Gujarat | Gujarati | 400 | 785 |
| Jammu & Kashmir | Urdu / Kashmiri / Dogri | 15 | — |
| Karnataka | Kannada | 130 | 288 |
| Kerala | Malayalam | 40 | 9 |
| Maharashtra | Marathi | 180 | 38 |
| Manipur | Manipuri / Meitei | 10 | 5 |
| Meghalaya | Garo / Khasi | 9 | 6 |
| Mizoram | Mizo | 11 | 4 |
| Nagaland | English* | 9 | 6 |
| Odisha | Odia | 96 | 4 |
| Punjab | Punjabi | 30 | 4 |
| Sikkim | Nepali / Sikkimese | 9 | 1 |
| Tamil Nadu | Tamil | 128 | 4 |
| Telangana | Telugu | 50 | — |
| Tripura | Bengali / Kokborok | 5 | 3 |
| West Bengal | Bengali / Nepali | 40 | 2 |
No Hindi-belt state on the list — read this before paying the fee
Check the table above once more: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal — none of them carries a single vacancy in this round. The exam CENTRE list does include those states (Uttar Pradesh alone has 15 test cities, from Agra to Muzaffarnagar), because you may sit the test near home — but the POST will be in one of the 20 listed states, in its local language, for at least 12 years.
The one line Hindi-belt candidates should still read: Jammu & Kashmir's language requirement is Urdu / Kashmiri / Dogri (15 posts). A candidate who genuinely reads, writes, speaks and understands Urdu meets that state's language condition — the advertisement asks for proficiency, wherever you learned it. Everywhere else, be honest with yourself about the language test before spending the Rs 850 fee: it is non-refundable even if you are never called.
Pay, posting and the bond — know before you prepare
The posting rule is the whole point of the "Local" in Local Bank Officer: you serve in the state you applied for, for the first 12 years or until you reach SMGS-IV, whichever comes first. Weigh the bond too — leaving within three years costs three months' gross salary, up to Rs 2 lakh.
| Item | As the advertisement states it |
|---|---|
| Pay scale (JMGS-I) | Rs 48,480 – Rs 85,920 (48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920) |
| Advance increment | One extra increment for 1+ year's officer experience in a scheduled commercial bank |
| Posting | In the state you applied for — first 12 years of service, or until promotion to SMGS-IV, whichever is earlier |
| Probation | 12 months of active service |
| Service bond | Serve 3 years, or pay 3 months' gross salary (capped at Rs 2 lakh) on leaving early |
What the job actually is — Annexure I in brief
The advertisement's Annexure I describes the LBO's day: this is a full branch-officer role, and the interview stage will expect you to know it.
- Run day-to-day branch operations — customer service, accounts, cash, remittances.
- Process and monitor credit proposals across retail, agriculture and MSME portfolios, including documentation and recovery.
- Own compliance: KYC/AML norms, audit requirements, risk and fraud-prevention measures.
- Grow business — mobilise deposits, acquire customers, market banking and digital products, meet cross-selling targets.
What this page deliberately does not state
The advertisement names the four test sections but publishes NO topic-wise syllabus — no chapter list for Banking Knowledge, no topic breakdown for Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude. Any site showing you such a list for LBO 2026 is guessing from older bank exams. The Bank's own detailed information, if any, arrives in the information handout released with the call letter.
The exam date, section-wise cut-offs and the final list of test centres are also not in the advertisement — centres are tentative (your allotted centre comes in the call letter), and every further announcement is published only on bankofbaroda.bank.in under Careers → Current Opportunities. The Bank sends no separate intimation to candidates who are not shortlisted.
