1. Defence · Navy gets its first indigenous Multi-Purpose Vessel, 'Samarthak'
'Samarthak', the first indigenous Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV), built by Larsen & Toubro Limited at Kattupalli, was delivered to the Indian Navy on 27 August 2026. The ship uses more than 75% indigenous content and is built as a multi-utility trials and evaluation platform; it is also designed for maritime surveillance and reconnaissance, offshore patrol, and to assist in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief when needed. The name means 'the one who supports'.

2. Judiciary · Three judicial officers appointed to the Himachal Pradesh High Court
The President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India and in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution, appointed judicial officers to the Himachal Pradesh High Court: Chirag Bhanu as a Judge, and Bhupesh Sharma and Yogesh Jaswal as Additional Judges.

3. Elections · ECI's third regional conference on Electoral Literacy Clubs 2.0
The Election Commission of India held its third regional conference on Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELC 2.0) and 'ECINET' in Chennai, for students and teachers from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said today's students are tomorrow's flag-bearers of democracy. ELC 2.0 carries the tagline 'Learn Democracy, Lead Democracy' and rebuilds electoral literacy clubs in schools, colleges and universities as a systematic, visible and digitally-enabled platform. The release sizes the ecosystem this reaches: about 15 lakh schools with roughly 25 crore students and over 1 crore teachers, and in higher education about 1,500 universities and around 70,000 institutions with an estimated 4.33 crore students.

4. Schemes · JJM 2.0 and SBM-G 2.0 works to be converged under the VB-G RAM G Act
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (Ministry of Jal Shakti), with the Ministry of Rural Development, asked states and UTs to converge Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) 2.0 works under the Viksit Bharat – Rozgar evam Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) — VB-G RAM G — Act, 2025, which identifies water security as one of its four key areas. JJM 2.0 was approved on 10 March 2026. States were asked to include the officer in charge of rural water supply / public health engineering in the state-level steering committee, name dedicated nodal officers, link village development plans with the village action plans under both missions, and register and geo-tag all works on the Viksit Bharat National Rural Infrastructure Stack.

5. Economy · Buffer onion at ₹35/kg in Delhi-NCR; 'Kanda Express' scaled up
The government is releasing buffer-stock onion at ₹35 per kg in Delhi-NCR through retail outlets and mobile vans. The 'Kanda Express' initiative, which moves buffer onion from producing areas to consumption centres, grew sharply: in 2024-25 about 12,000 metric tonnes reached 5 cities through 14 railway rakes, while in 2025-26 about 88,000 metric tonnes reached 16 cities through 86 railway rakes. Movement now uses both rail and road, and the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) has been brought in for scientific storage and efficient distribution.

Under the Swachhata Udyami Yojana (SUY) component of the NAMASTE scheme, sanitation workers receive financial support and access to mechanised equipment so they can move away from unsafe manual work into self-employment. The release profiles Himanshu, a 25-year-old graduate from Nandgram, Mariam Nagar in Ghaziabad, who now independently operates a tractor-cum-suction machine and provides mechanised cleaning services in nearby areas.
