Bank of India Specialist Officer Recruitment 2026 — 205 posts in Scale I to IV, applications close 25 September
One notice, 48 separate officer posts across four grades. You may apply for only one of them — the notice says that where a candidate files several applications only the latest valid one is kept, and the fee paid on the others is forfeited. The application fee is ₹175 – ₹1,180 depending on your category.

What Bank of India has advertised, and what its notice actually prints ↑
The recruitment is titled “Recruitment of Officers in various streams upto Scale IV”, Project No. 2026-27/02, notice dated 1 August 2026. Every post in it is a Specialist Officer (the notice marks the stream SPL), which is why the qualification asked for is a specific one — a civil engineering post, a law post, a fire post, an information security post — and not a general banking degree.
The Bank prints a Total row for each grade: 10 in Scale IV, 49 in Scale III, 118 in Scale II and 28 in Scale I. It prints no all-India total anywhere in its 38 pages. The 205 in this page's own headline is those four printed totals added together — our arithmetic, not the Bank's — and we would rather say that than hand you a figure the notice never wrote.
The notice also puts a caveat on its own numbers: the vacancies are inclusive of backlog, and “the number of vacancies and also the number of reserved vacancies is provisional and may vary according to actual requirements of the Bank.” It reserves the right to change the name of a post or designation at any time without notice.
One date decides your eligibility, and it is neither the opening nor the closing date: age and qualification are counted as on 1 August 2026. A birthday or a result that arrives in September does not help, and the notice requires the board or university to have declared your result on or before that date. The examination date is not fixed at all — the notice says it “will be advised separately”.
Everything below was read off that notice and restated in our own words. Where the notice is silent, this page says so instead of filling the gap; the last section lists every such silence.
| Grade | SC | ST | OBC | EWS | GEN | Total as printed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scale IV — Chief Manager (SMGS-IV) | 1 | — | 2 | 1 | 6 | 10 |
| Scale III — Senior Manager (MMGS-III) | 7 | 3 | 13 | 4 | 22 | 49 |
| Scale II — Manager, Law, Fire and Security Officer (MMGS-II) | 17 | 8 | 31 | 11 | 51 | 118 |
| Scale I — Officer, including Civil Engineer (JMGS-I) | 4 | 2 | 7 | 2 | 13 | 28 |
Civil Engineer — your whole row, in one table ↑
It is the only engineering-discipline post in this notice. Every other post is a technology, banking-operations, law, fire or security role, so a civil engineer competes here against 10 vacancies, not against every post in this notice.
Note the age floor. Civil Engineer starts at 25, while the other Scale I posts in the same table start at 21 — a fresh graduate is eligible for Officer – Full-Stack Engineering but not for this post.
One line of your eligibility is genuinely not in the notice: the degree and experience it asks for. The Bank puts the criteria for all 48 posts in Annexure-I, which it publishes as a separate file and links from page 4. Open that before you pay the fee — it is linked at the bottom of this page.

Scale I — Officer posts, including Civil Engineer ↑
Seven posts, and the notice's own Total row at the end of the table. A blank cell is blank in the notice too — it is not a zero we filled in, and no column here has been added up by us.
The PwBD column carries the notice's own marks: HI for hearing impairment, VI for visual impairment, OC for orthopedically challenged and ID for intellectual disability. Those posts sit inside the totals, not on top of them.

Scale II — Manager, Law Officer, Fire Officer and Security Officer ↑
The largest block in this recruitment, and the widest in range: the technology and operations posts sit in the same table as Law Officers, Fire Officer and Security Officer.
Age windows differ inside this one grade. Most Scale II posts run 25 to 35, Manager-Information Security closes at 32, the CISA/CISM/CISSP post opens at 27, and Law Officers closes at 30.

| Post | SC | ST | OBC | EWS | GEN | Total | PwBD (as printed) | Min age | Max age |

Pay — the basic scales the notice prints ↑
These are scales of basic pay, printed in the notice as “Basic pay as below and other allowances and perquisites as applicable”. The figures in brackets are the number of annual increments at that rate — so JMGS-I runs from 48480 by seven increments of 2000, then two of 2340, then seven of 2680, up to 85920.
The notice prints no gross salary, no in-hand figure and no allowance amounts. Any monthly take-home number you see for this recruitment elsewhere was calculated by somebody, not published by the Bank.
| Scale / grade | Scale of basic pay (Rs.) |
|---|---|
| Junior Management Grade Scale - I (JMGS-I) | 48480 – 2000 (7) – 62480 – 2340 (2) – 67160 – 2680 (7) – 85920 |
| Middle Management Grade Scale - II (MMGS-II) | 64820 – 2340 (1) – 67160 – 2680 (10) – 93960 |
| Middle Management Grade Scale - III (MMGS-III) | 85920 – 2680 (5) – 99320 – 2980 (2) – 105280 |
| Senior Management Grade Scale - IV (SMGS-IV) | 102300 – 2980 (4) – 114220 – 3360 (2) – 120940 |
Age and relaxation — read the row for your own post first ↑
There is no single age limit for this recruitment. Each post prints its own minimum and maximum, counted as on 1 August 2026, and those are in the four vacancy tables above.
The maximum age printed against a post applies to General and EWS candidates. The relaxations below are added on top of it. Relaxation for SC, ST and OBC candidates is cumulative with only one of the remaining categories, and every relaxation has to be proved with an original certificate at the interview.
The notice also states that there is no reservation for ex-servicemen in the officers' cadre, even though the age relaxation for them exists.
| Category | Upper-age relaxation |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe | 5 years |
| Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer) | 3 years |
| Persons with benchmark disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 | 10 years |
| Ex-servicemen, commissioned officers including ECOs and SSCOs with at least 5 years' military service, released on completion of assignment | 5 years |
| Persons affected by the 1984 riots | 5 years |
The online examination — two papers in one sitting of 100 minutes ↑
Two papers in one composite sitting. Every test except English Language is available in both English and Hindi.
The English Language paper is qualifying only: you must clear it, but its marks are not added to the merit list. The merit list is built on the Professional Knowledge paper alone.
A wrong answer costs one fourth of that question's marks. A blank costs nothing. The notice also reserves the Bank's right to change this structure, with the change announced on its own website.
| Test | Maximum marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | 25 | Composite time of 100 minutes for both tests |
| Professional Knowledge relevant to the post | 100 | Within the same composite 100 minutes |
Selection — shortlisting, the 60:40 weightage, and the interview ↑
Selection is “through online test and/or personal interview, depending on the number of applicants”. The Bank may skip the online test altogether and shortlist candidates for a direct interview on qualification, experience and overall suitability.
Before any of that, your uploaded documents decide whether you are shortlisted at all. The notice is blunt about it: applications are shortlisted or rejected “solely on the basis of documents uploaded in support of eligibility criteria at the time of registration and no further enquiry / request for submission of documents at later date will be accommodated.”
If too few candidates qualify, the Bank may scrap a post or reduce the number of vacancies without giving a reason.
| What you need to know | As printed in the notice |
|---|---|
| Maximum marks for the interview | 100 |
| Minimum qualifying marks in the interview | 50% for General and EWS; 45% for SC, ST, OBC and PWD where vacancies are notified in the reserved category |
| Ratio in which candidates are called for interview | 1:3 to the number of vacancies — the Bank may increase or decrease this ratio at its discretion |
| Weightage of online examination and interview | 60:40 |
| Marks the merit list is built on | Marks obtained in the Professional Knowledge paper |
| The English Language paper | Qualifying in nature — its marks are not added while preparing the merit list |
| Minimum qualifying marks in each test | 35% for General and EWS; 5% relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates filling reserved vacancies |
| Penalty for a wrong answer | One fourth of the marks assigned to that question; no penalty for a blank |
| Tie-break | Higher marks in the online examination; if those are equal too, the candidate senior in age is placed higher |
| If the Bank holds no online examination | Selection is made through personal interview alone, and the merit list is built on interview marks |

How to apply — online only, and what to have ready first ↑
Before you start, the notice asks you to have three things ready: the scanned photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration; an email id and mobile number you will keep active until the process ends, because call letters are sent to that email; and a valid identity proof such as PAN, Aadhaar, passport, permanent driving licence or voter's card.
- Go to www.bankofindia.bank.in, click CAREER, and open the link “Recruitment of Officers in various streams upto Scale IV- Project No. 2026-27/02 Notice dated 01.08.2026”, then click APPLY ONLINE.
- Choose “Click here for New Registration” and enter your name, contact details and email id. The system generates a provisional registration number and password, and also sends them by email and SMS.
- Use SAVE AND NEXT to save a part-filled form; the notice advises verifying the details this way before final submission.
- Upload the photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration to the scan specifications given in the notice.
- Upload the documents the shortlisting is done on — proof of professional experience, mandatory certification, educational qualifications, and anything else your eligibility rests on.
- Preview the form. Nothing can be changed after COMPLETE REGISTRATION, including the spelling of your own or your father's or husband's name.
- Pay the fee online only, by Master, Visa or RuPay credit card, debit card, internet banking, cash card, mobile wallet, QR or UPI. Bank transaction charges are yours to bear.
Security deposit and career path — what happens after selection ↑
This is the part of the notice most summaries leave out. A selected candidate has to place a security deposit, refundable after three years of satisfactory service and forfeited if the officer leaves before completing those three years.
On career path, the notice says specialist recruits join the specialised segment or stream of the post applied for, and progress under the Bank's existing promotion policy, after which they may compete for promotion alongside general banking officers of the same scale.
| Grade at joining | Security deposit |
|---|---|
| Officers in JMGS-I (Scale I, including Civil Engineer) | Rs.1,00,000/- |
| Officers in MMGS-II (Scale II) | Rs.2,00,000/- |
| Officers in MMGS-III & above (Scale III and IV) | Rs.3,00,000/- |
Documents to carry to the interview ↑
The notice requires originals with self-attested photocopies, and warns that a candidate who cannot produce them may not be allowed to appear. No document may be sent to the Bank directly, before or after the interview.
- Printout of the valid interview call letter, and the system-generated printout of the online application form.
- Proof of date of birth — birth certificate, or the SSLC / Standard X certificate carrying the date of birth.
- Photo identity proof as described in the notice's Identity Verification paragraph.
- Mark sheets and certificates for educational qualifications, with proof from the board or university that the result was declared on or before 01.08.2026.
- Caste certificate in the prescribed central format for SC, ST and OBC candidates. An OBC certificate must carry the non-creamy-layer clause and be issued on or after 01.04.2026, and the caste name must tally letter by letter with the central list.
- Income and asset certificate in the prescribed format for EWS candidates.
- Disability certificate in the prescribed format for PWD candidates, plus the scribe's bio-data if a scribe was used in the online examination.
- For ex-servicemen: service or discharge book or pension payment order, and proof of rank. Those still serving must produce a certificate that they will be relieved on or before 25.09.2027.
- A no-objection certificate from the employer for candidates serving in government, quasi-government offices or public sector undertakings, including nationalised banks.
- Experience certificates, as applicable, and any other document supporting eligibility.
What this notice does not print ↑
The largest gap is the one that decides whether you can apply at all: the educational qualification and the experience required for each post. The notice does not carry them. On page 4 it says “Eligibility Criteria for Posts CLICK HERE for Annexure - I” and links a separate file, and that file is where the degree, the percentage and the years of experience for the Civil Engineer post and the other 47 posts are printed.
We link Annexure-I below rather than paraphrase somebody else's reading of it. If any figure on this page matters to your application, the last word is the Bank's own PDF, not this page.
| What a candidate wants to know | What the notice says |
|---|---|
| Educational qualification and experience for each post | Printed in Annexure-I, a separate PDF the notice links — not in the notice itself |
| An all-India total of vacancies | Not printed anywhere in the 38 pages; only a Total row per grade |
| The date of the online examination | “Will be advised separately” |
| Syllabus and number of questions | Only marks and duration are printed; an Information Handout is promised with the call letter |
| Gross salary or in-hand pay | Not printed — only scales of basic pay, plus “other allowances and perquisites as applicable” |
| Cut-off marks | Not printed |
| Place of posting | Not printed — the notice says officers may be posted or transferred anywhere in India |
