Eligibility

Open only to unmarried male engineering graduates. Nationality: a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle permanently in India — the last two need a Government of India eligibility certificate, except Gorkha subjects of Nepal. Qualification: BE/B.Tech, or M.Sc Computer Science, in one of the engineering streams or listed equivalents in the vacancy table; the stream on your degree or mark sheet must match the one you enter, or the candidature is cancelled. A degree from a foreign country is not accepted. Final-year students may apply if their result is declared by 1 July 2027 and their cumulative marks up to the 6th semester (8th for B.Arch, 2nd for M.Sc) meet the stream's cut-off; they must send proof of passing with all mark sheets by 1 July 2027 and are inducted on an additional bond. Age 20 to 27 on 1 July 2027. Before joining you must manage a 2.4 km run in 10 minutes 30 seconds, 40 push-ups, 6 pull-ups, 30 sit-ups, two sets of 30 squats and of 10 lunges, and know the fundamentals of swimming. Not eligible: anyone withdrawn, dismissed or invalided out of a defence academy on disciplinary, administrative or medical grounds, anyone ever debarred by UPSC, and anyone ever arrested or convicted by a criminal court.

Pay Scale

Stipend of ₹56,100 a month during training at IMA Dehradun (the starting pay of Level 10). On commission as Lieutenant: Level 10, ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500 a month, with pay fixed in the first cell of Level 10, plus Military Service Pay of fifteen thousand five hundred rupees a month fixed, dearness allowance, and the dress, transport, technical, field-area and other allowances the notification lists for the rank and posting. Arrears of admissible allowances for the training period are paid after commissioning.

Selection Process

  1. Shortlisting: applications are cut off stream by stream on the cumulative percentage of marks up to the final semester or year, in a vacancy-to-call-up ratio set by the Recruiting Directorate. The form converts marks to a percentage by simple formula, but the university's own CGPA-to-percentage figure is final — if it falls below the cut-off, do not report for SSB even if shortlisted.
  2. Shortlisted candidates log in and pick their SSB date and centre — Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru or Jalandhar — first come, first served; once chosen it cannot be changed. The call-up letter comes by e-mail and SMS only.
  3. SSB interview of up to five days in two stages; those who fail Stage 1 return the same day. Candidates recommended after Stage 2 go through a medical examination (an SSB medical stays valid for 270 days up to the joining date). A first-time candidate for this type of commission gets AC-III rail or bus fare both ways.
  4. Merit list, stream by stream, on SSB interview marks only; a tie goes to the older candidate, then to the higher degree percentage. Those within the stream vacancies and medically fit get joining letters for IMA Dehradun; recommended candidates beyond the vacancies may be offered the SSC (Tech) course of October 2027.
  5. About 12 months of training at IMA Dehradun, wholly at government cost; you must not marry during training. A cadet who withdraws for reasons other than medical or beyond his control refunds the training cost, given as about ₹20,481.96 a week.
  6. On completing training you are granted Permanent Commission as a Lieutenant, with one year of ante-date seniority for engineering graduates of the TGC entry.

How to Apply

  1. Apply online only, on www.joinindianarmy.nic.in, between 3 pm on 30 September and 3 pm on 29 October 2026. An Aadhaar number and your matriculation certificate are mandatory for registration.
  2. Click 'Officer Entry Apply/Login', then 'Registration' (skip this if you are already registered on the site), and fill the registration form.
  3. After registering, click 'Apply Online' on the Dashboard; on the Officers Selection 'Eligibility' page, click 'Apply' against Technical Graduate Course.
  4. Fill each segment — personal information, communication details, education details and previous SSB details — clicking 'Save & Continue' before the next. Enter graduation marks converted by your university's own formula, and your name, parents' names and date of birth exactly as on the matriculation certificate.
  5. Check the 'Summary of your information' page and click 'Submit'; click 'Submit' again every time you reopen the form to edit. Nothing can be changed after the window closes.
  6. Thirty minutes after the window closes on the last day, take two printouts of your application with its Roll Number. Carry one, signed and with a self-attested photograph, to the SSB with all original documents; there is no need to send any hard copy to DG Recruiting. Submit only one application — multiple applications are cancelled.
