Eligibility

Open to male and female Indian citizens, including subjects of Nepal or Bhutan. You need a degree from a recognised university with Psychology as a subject, or a degree together with a Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Teaching or equivalent. Age 20 to 25 years on 27 October 2026 — born between 28 October 2001 and 27 October 2006. Minimum height for men 170 cm and for women 157 cm; 165 and 155 cm for Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, the Kashmir region of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh; 162.5 and 154 cm for Scheduled Tribe candidates including Mizos and Nagas. Men's chest 80 cm unexpanded / 85 cm expanded (77/82 cm for the ST group); women's chest is not measured. Uncorrected distant vision of 6/6 and 6/9 without glasses or lenses; colour blindness, knock knees, flat foot, varicose veins or a squint disqualify, and candidates of the physically handicapped category are not eligible. Tattoos only on the inner left forearm or the back of the hand, smaller than a quarter of that part. You must agree to serve at least 10 years — resigning earlier means refunding three months' pay and allowances or the cost of training, whichever is higher — and to serve anywhere in India or abroad.

Pay Scale

Level 4 in the Pay Matrix, ₹25,500 – 81,100 a month (7th CPC). The post also carries dearness allowance, ration money, special compensatory allowance while posted in specified border areas, free accommodation or HRA, transport allowance, leave travel concession, free medical facilities and other allowances admissible in the Force. On appointment you choose either the National Pension System (NPS) or the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).

Selection Process

  1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET), qualifying only. Men: 1.6 km race in 7 minutes 30 seconds, long jump 11 feet, high jump 3½ feet. Women: 800 m race in 4 minutes 45 seconds, long jump 9 feet, high jump 3 feet. Three chances at each jump; fail any event and you are out, with no appeal. Ex-servicemen do not take the PET. Bring a clear printout of the online application and the admit card; identity is checked with biometrics.
  2. Women give a self-declaration of pregnancy status at the PET and PST. A woman found 12 or more weeks pregnant is declared temporarily unfit and her vacancy is kept for her; she is re-tested on the PET six weeks after confinement with a fitness certificate.
  3. Physical Standard Test (PST): height, and chest for men only, measured by the table in the eligibility section; women are measured by female staff. A candidate rejected on height or chest may appeal the same day. Weight is decided at the medical, not here.
  4. Written examination: 100 objective questions, 100 marks, 2 hours, on OMR or computer as ITBP decides — General English 10, General Hindi 10, General Awareness 10, Quantitative Aptitude and simple reasoning 10, and Psychology 60. The Psychology part is General Psychology, intelligence, creativity and problem solving 10; personality, attitude, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination and group dynamics 10; psychopathology 15; counselling psychology 15; managing human resources 10. There is no negative marking. Qualifying marks: 35% for UR, EWS and ex-servicemen, 33% for SC, ST and OBC (NCL). No re-evaluation.
  5. Category-wise merit lists (UR, SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS, ex-servicemen) are drawn on the written marks; a tie goes to the older candidate, then to the name first in English alphabetical order. There is no reserve list.
  6. Those shortlisted on merit go through verification of original documents — educational certificates, the 10th certificate for date of birth, caste/EWS certificates in the annexure formats, a no-objection certificate for government employees, the discharge certificate for ex-servicemen, and four passport photographs.
  7. Detailed Medical Examination; a candidate declared unfit may seek a Review Medical Examination by signing the consent within 24 hours, and the review board's decision is final.

How to Apply

  1. Apply online only, between 00:01 on 28 September and 11:59 pm on 27 October 2026, on https://recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in — an application sent any other way is rejected.
  2. Click NEW USER REGISTRATION and create your profile with a working e-mail address and mobile number; admit cards for every stage are issued online to them.
  3. In the profile, fill gender, category (SC, ST, OBC, EWS), employment status and the other details before you open the application. Any false entry cancels the candidature, and a category cannot be changed later.
  4. Fill the Head Constable (Education and Stress Counsellor) application, then pay ₹100 through the online payment gateway if you are a male UR, OBC or EWS candidate; everyone else pays nothing.
  5. Print the submitted application form and keep the same passport photograph — you must show the printout at the PET and PST. A government employee must bring a no-objection certificate from the employer to document verification.
