Eligibility
Age: at least 16½ and not more than 19½ years on 1 July 2027 — born between 1 January 2008 and 1 January 2011, both days included — with no category-wise relaxation. Open only to unmarried men, who must stay unmarried until training is complete — a candidate who marries after applying is not selected, and one who marries during training is discharged and must repay what his training cost. Qualification: Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 60% aggregate in those three subjects, counted on Class 12 marks only; you must also have appeared in JEE (Main) 2026 — that is mandatory. Enter your exact PCM percentage to two decimal places, without rounding; a false figure cancels the candidature. Nationality: a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle permanently in India; the last two groups need a Government of India eligibility certificate, except Gorkha subjects of Nepal. Not eligible: anyone ever debarred by UPSC, arrested or convicted by a criminal court or involved in a court case, or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from NDA, OTA, IMA, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy or any service training academy. Medical standards are those for officer entry published on joinindianarmy.nic.in. On arrival for training you are expected to manage a 2.4 km run in 10 minutes 30 seconds, 40 push-ups, 6 pull-ups, 30 sit-ups, two sets of 30 squats and two sets of 10 lunges, and to know the basics of swimming.
Pay Scale
Stipend of ₹56,100 a month in the final year, at IMA Dehradun, after three years of training. On commission as Lieutenant: Level 10, ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500 a month, with pay fixed in the first cell of Level 10, plus Military Service Pay of fifteen thousand five hundred rupees a month fixed, dearness allowance, and the dress, transport, field-area and other allowances the notification lists for the rank and posting. The notification puts the cost to company at about 17-18 lakh a year.
Selection Process
- Shortlisting: Army headquarters screens the applications and fixes a cut-off based on the JEE (Main) CRL and other parameters. The cut-off percentage is to be published tentatively in the fourth week of November 2026 (the Hindi version of the notice says the third week; the notice says the English version prevails).
- Shortlisted candidates log in and choose their SSB centre and date, first come first served — Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru or Jalandhar. The choice cannot be changed later, though the Recruiting Directorate may change it. The call-up letter comes by e-mail and SMS only.
- SSB interview of five days in two stages, tentatively from February-March 2027; those who fail Stage I return home the same day. A first-time candidate for this type of commission gets AC-III rail or bus fare both ways.
- Medical examination at the nearest Military Hospital straight after SSB for those recommended. A candidate who has also applied for NDA follows the notice's joint medical rules: declared unfit in one entry means unfit for both.
- Merit list on SSB marks only — higher qualifications, NCC or past performance count for nothing. Joining letters go in merit order to those recommended and medically fit, as far as the vacancies go; a candidate who does not report within 7 days loses the seat to the next in merit.
- Training of 4 years: 3 years at a Cadets Training Wing — CME Pune, MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad; you list all three, the Army decides — and 1 year at IMA Dehradun, ending in an engineering degree and a Permanent Commission as Lieutenant. Training is at government cost, but a cadet who leaves for personal reasons repays it (₹13,940 a week as on 2021), and cadets pay a one-time insurance premium of ₹14,000.
How to Apply
- Apply online only, on www.joinindianarmy.nic.in, from 12 noon on 14 October 2026 to 12 noon on 12 November 2026: click the 'online application' button on the website and follow the registration steps. The notification mentions no application fee.
- Fill in your particulars and read the terms linked to the form. Give your exact Class 12 PCM percentage to two decimal places and your JEE Main 2026 application number. If you are employed, say so and confirm in writing that you have told your employer.
- You can correct the form until the window closes, but click 'Submit' every time you reopen it. Submit only one application — more than one cancels the candidature.
- Thirty minutes after the window closes, print two copies of your application with its Roll Number. Take one, self-attested, to the SSB and keep the other; there is no need to send any copy to the Directorate General of Recruiting.
- Carry to the SSB, in original with two sets of self-attested photocopies: your Class 10 certificate and mark sheet showing your date of birth, your Class 12 pass certificate and mark sheet, an ID proof, a copy of your JEE (Main) 2026 result and 20 passport-size photographs. DigiLocker copies are not accepted in place of originals.
- Questions go only through the 'Feedback/Queries' option on the website, and only those sent up to 3 days before the window closes are answered.
